Annexure 9: Indira Gandhi National Open University

Programmes

The School of Management Studies of IGNOU offers the following management programmes: (1) Master of Business Management (MBA), Duration: 3 years; (2) Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDIM); (3) Diploma in Management (DIM); (4) Specialisation PG Diploma Programme in four functional areas, viz., Human Resource Management (PGDHRM), Financial Management (PGDFM), Operations Management (PGDOM), and Marketing Management (PGDMM), Duration of Courses: all 1 year-2 ½ years). In addition, two other programmes have also been introduced: (5) MBA (Banking and Finance) (Designed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Bankers) and (6) Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Operations (PGDIBIO), Duration: 1 year-3 years. All the programmes use standard IGNOU Multiple Media design and technologies aided delivery systems and are offered through countrywide study centres.

    Integrative Course

    Compulsory Courses

  • MS-91 Strategic Management
  • MS-95 Research Methodology for Management Decisions
  • MS-100 Project (equivalent to two courses).

    Elective Courses

  • MS-92 Management of Public Enterprises
  • MS-93 Management of New and Small Enterprises
  • MS-94 Technology Management
  • MS-97 International Business.

    The students are required to complete specified number of courses for each of the awards: MBA: The programme consists of 21 courses in all viz., courses MS-1 to MS-11, five courses from the specialisation category, compulsory courses MS-91 and MS-95 and one elective course from MS-92, MS-93, MS-94 and MS-97 and project course equivalent to two courses from the Integrated Courses category

    PGDIM: Courses MS-1 to MS-11 (total 11 courses)

    DIM: Courses MS-1 to MS-3 (Compulsory) and two electives from MS-4 to MS-7. (Total Five courses).

    Specialisation Diploma Programmes

    Each of these programmes consists of five courses in all from that particular specialisation stream. PGDHRM: Courses MS-21 to MS-26

    PGDFM: Courses MS-41 to MS-46

    PGDOM: MS-51 to MS-54, MS-58 and MS-94

    PGDMM: MS-61 to MS-66 and MS-68.

    Note: In the case of PGDOM, students would be required to take two courses from other streams. Those who want to do only PGDOM would be required to take two more courses – MS-7 and MS-8 or MS-9.

    Eligibility and Admission Procedure

    1.  MBA, PGDIM, DIM and Specialisation PG Diploma Programmes-

    (i)  Bachelor’s degree plus three years of supervisory, managerial or professional experience; or

    (ii)  Degree in engineering, technology, medicine, architecture, law, etc., or

    (iii)  Professional qualification in accountancy, Cost and Works Accountancy, Company Secretaryship, etc; or

    (iv)  Master’s degree in any subject. Non-graduates with six years of relevant experiences are eligible for DIM only. Admission is based on an entrance test OPENMAT conducted in nearly 160 centres all over India.

    2.  MBA (Banking and Finance) – The course is open only to members of Indian Institute of Bankers (IIB) and should satisfy the following conditions: (i) should have passed the CAIIB examination of the Institute. (ii) Should have been working in the banking or financial service sectors for a period of at least two years. There is no entrance test.

    3.  PGDIBO – Graduate in any discipline. There is no entrance test.
