Annexure 8: Medical Technology Courses

1.  Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (Porur, Chennai-600116) – It is a deemed university which offers a unique four-year degree course leading to B.Sc (Allied Health Sciences). Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with biology are eligible. The first year covers introduction to basic medical science and concept of diseases and the second and third years are devoted to teaching and training in one of the specialty technologies including instrumentation and product promotion. The specialties are (1) Anaesthesia Technology (2) Cardiac Technology (3) Neuroscience Technology (4) Operation Theatre Technology (5) Perfusion Technology (6) Radiology & Imaging Technology (7) Renal Dialysis Technology (8) Respiratory Care Technology and (9) Clinical Laboratory Technology. The fourth year is paid internship after which the degree is awarded.

2.  Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (Chandigarh) – It offers three first degree courses leading to B.Sc (Medical Technology) – Laboratory, X-ray and Radiotherapy. Duration: Three-Years, Eligibility: 10+2 with science subjects. M.Sc (Medical Technology) in Microbiology, Pharmacology and Physiology Radiology and Pathology, Eligibility: MBBS/BDS.

3.  Christian Medical College (Thorapadi Post, Vellore-632002, Tamil Nadu) – Apart from a three-year degree course B.Sc (Medical laboratory Technology), it offers the largest number of diploma courses open to candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination and also B.Sc, B.Sc (Home Science) and B.Pharm degree holders. The areas include: Diploma Course- Anaesthesia Technology Training, Clinical Laboratory Technology (Basic Gr), Histopathology Laboratory Technology, Medical Radiation Technology (Diagnosis), Medical Radiation Technology (Therapy), Optometry, Perfusion Technology. Eligibility: Pass in 10+2 or equivalent with subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Biology. PG Diploma Courses – Clinical Neurophysiology, Clinical Pharmacy, Dialysis Therapy, Dietetics, ECG & Cardiac Cathy. Technology, ECG & Echocardiography Technology, Medical Microbiology, Medical Radiation Technology (Nuclear Medicine). Eligibility: Degree holders of B.Sc/B.Sc (Home Science/B.Pharm. etc)

4.  Kidwai Institute of Oncology (Hosur Road, Bangalore-560029) – Offers three courses: B.Sc (Medical Technology) – Laboratory, Radiotherapy, Radio diagnosis. Duration: Three years, Eligibility: 10+2 with science subjects.

5.  Mahatma Gandhi University, School of Medical Education (Medical College Campus, Gandhinagar, Kottayam-6866008) – Four courses are offered: B.Sc (Medical Laboratory Technology), B.Sc (Medical Radiological Technology), and B.Sc (Medical Microbiology) and B.Sc (Optometry). Duration: Three years, Eligibility: 10+2 with biological science. It also offers Master of Applied Sciences – Medical Documentation and Sports Medicine. Duration: Two years, Eligibility: B.Sc with biological sciences.

6.  Nizam Institute of Medical Science (Panjagutta, Hyderabad-5090082) (State University) – It has six postgraduate diploma courses: Neuro-technology, Cardiovascular Technology, Cardiac Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography & Imaging Technology and Medical Records and Computer Science. Duration: Two years. Eligibility: B.Sc with Biological Sciences. The institute also offers five diploma courses: Transfusion Medicine Technology, Anaesthesia Technician Training, Vascular Surgery Technician Training, ECG Technician Training and Dialysis Technician Training. Duration: One year. Eligibility: B.Sc with biological sciences.

7.  Manipal Academy of Higher Education (University Building Madhavnagar, Manipal-576119) (Deemed University) – Offers three programmes: Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT), Bachelor of Nuclear Medicine Technology (BNMT), and Bachelor of Medical Record Technology (BMRT). Duration: Three years, Eligibility: 10+2 with science subjects. It has also introduced Bachelor Degree Programme in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT), Medical Imaging Technology (BMIT) and Medical Documentation Technology (BMDT) through distance learning mode.

8.  Sri Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences (Tirupati-517507) (Deemed University) – Offers four P G Diploma Courses: Cardiovascular Technology, Cardiac Pulmonary Perfusion, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography & Imaging Technology. Duration: Two years. Eligibility: B.Sc. The institute also offers three Diploma Courses: Anesthesia Technology, ECG Technology, and Dialysis Technology. Duration: One-year, Eligibility: B.Sc with biological sciences.

9.  All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Ansari Nagar, New Delhi-110029) (Deemed University) – Offers two courses: B.Sc (Hons) Ophthalmic Techniques and B.Sc (Hons) Medical Technology in Radiography. Duration: Three years, Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics with 50% marks in the aggregate.

10.  Banaras Hindu University (Varanasi-221005) – Diploma in Dialysis Technology. Duration: Two-Years, Eligibility: B.Sc Biology/B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology/Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology with five years of experience.

11.  H N B Garhwal University (Srinagar, Garhwal-246174) – P G Diploma in Bio-medical Laboratory Technology. Duration: Three semesters, Eligibility: B.Sc with Zoology, Botany and Chemistry.

12.  Apollo Institute of Hospital Management & Allied Sciences. (Chennai-600018) – P G Diploma in Radiotherapy Technology. Duration: Postgraduate Diploma in Radiotherapy technology. Eligibility for both Science graduates with a minimum of 50% marks; Diploma in Medical Record Technology. Eligibility: 10+2 in Science with a minimum of 75% of marks).

13.  Birla Institute of Technology & Science (Pilani) MS Medical Laboratory Technology (3 years), B S (Bachelor of Science) – Optometry (4 years). Eligibility: 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics/biology. Both the programmes are offered in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya Medical Research Foundation, Madras.

14.  Tata Memorial Centre (Tata Memorial Hospital) – Radiotherapy and Radio-diagnosis course. Eligibility: B.Sc with 55% marks; Diagnostic Cytology. Duration 6 months. Eligibility: B.Sc with Microbiology/Life Science and DMLT.

15.  Delhi University, University College of Medical Sciences (Shahdara, Delhi-110095) – B.Sc (Medical Technology) – Radiography. Duration: Three years. Eligibility: A pass in 10+2 examination with biology as one of the subjects.

16.  National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Hosur Road, Bangalore-560029) – Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology (DCNT). Duration: One Year. Eligibility: B.Sc with physics/electronics/computer sciences.

17.  Shree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (Thiruvananthapuram-695011) (An Institute of National Importance) – Diploma in Cardiac Laboratory Technology. Duration: Two years. Eligibility: B.Sc with physics and having at least 60% marks in the aggregate; Diploma in Neuro Technology. Duration: Two years. Eligibility: As above: Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology. Duration: Two years. Eligibility: Diploma in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering or Instrumentation; Diploma in Advanced Medical Imaging Technology. Duration: Two years. Eligibility: Certificate in Radiographic Assistance or equivalent qualification; Certificate in Blood Banking Technology. Duration: One year. Eligibility: B.Sc with zoology or physiology and having an aggregate of at least 60% marks in these subjects.
